ABOUT BEACON HILL

“Wood is universally beautiful to man. It is the most humanly intimate of all materials.”

~Frank Lloyd Wright

Since my early days, the soul of an artist has resided within me. Whether I was playing bass in my band, BOLD, experimenting with found objects within my artist mother's workspace, or even crafting fantastical short stories, my life has been a journey of thriving on imaginative expression.

Born in Katonah, NY, with my father working in Manhattan, a unique tradition developed. Almost every school holiday, I would accompany him on the commute from Katonah to Grand Central Terminal. The route was a treasure trove of remarkable architecture, leading to his workplace within the CBS Black Rock building, a masterpiece designed by Eero Saarinen. Each block along the way was adorned with captivating structures that instilled in me a fascination with construction and design from an early age—an auspicious introduction indeed.

My trajectory as a carpenter unfolded over three decades, guided patiently by the tutelage of my late uncle, Henry Hartwell. I honed my craft by working on traditional homes along the East Coast.

2013 marked a significant shift as my wife, our two dogs, and I ventured to Los Angeles, a city adorned with an abundance of mid-century architectural marvels. These homes kindled a fresh and fervent intrigue for all things mid-century.

In 2017, with the arrival of our son, a new chapter began, accompanied by a transformed outlook on both life and work.

To me, a house surpasses its utilitarian label—it embodies a sanctuary, a haven of security interwoven with impeccable design, aesthetic allure, and pragmatic functionality.

Drawing upon my expertise in renovation, home furnishings, and crafting bespoke furniture, my aspiration is to extend to you the same standard of excellence and passion that I dedicate to my own family.
